In the Bankura district of West Bengal, the culturally vibrant town of Bishnupur is renowned for its wide range of artistic traditions. We are all familiar with Rabindranath Thakur' s well-known quote from Sahaj Path, "Haat boshechhe shukrobare bakshiganj e padma paarey" which eloquently captures the vibrant hues of Bengal's rural marketplaces. We've also heard about Santiniketan's Saturday Haat, which is renowned for its lively atmosphere and brings together countless tourists from cities each weekend to take in the local music, handicrafts, and culture.

The Poramatir Haat started on 7th November 2020. Every Saturday and Sunday, it takes place on the open ground near the Chhinnamasta Temple, right in front of the Jora Mandir in Bishnupur. The trade fair begins around noon and continues till evening. With the support of the Sub-Divisional Administration, this initiative has given new life to the local economy, which had long remained inactive.

Here you will find a huge variety of  handicrafts — bamboo items, dokra art, handwoven textiles, and beautiful terracotta artworks that give the marketplace it's name . The terracotta products include horse and elephant figures, wall hangings, home décor, and useful daily items, all showing the skill of local artisans. On one side, there are stalls full of these crafts, and on the other, you can enjoy Saotal dance and folk music that fill the place with joy. And of course, there are many numerous food stalls serve a variety of local streetfood , making your trip even more of a complete experience. During winter, a special Bonfire is also organized here. The bonfire becomes the centre of attention, and everything else — from Saotal dance to Baul songs — takes place around it, adding warmth, charm, and festivity to the atmosphere.
